Reusable Content for Projects

Looking for good content to use in your project, but you don't want to break copyright rules? Here are a few great places to go that provide content that is licensed for reuse.

SOUNDS

BBC's Sound Effects: "The Sound Effects are BBC copyright, but they may be used for personal, educational or research purposes, as detailed in the license."

BenSound's Royalty Free Music: Please notice that you can use these sounds for your projects, but BenSound's license requires attribution (citing).

ZapSplat: This site has both royalty free music and sound effects (and helpful sound effect packs of sounds that work together). You are free to use all the sounds on this site, but their license requires attribution (citing).

VIDEO

Pexels: Similar to Unsplash, this site houses videos that are licenced under Creative Commons Zero. That means you are free to use the videos without asking for permission or attributing the source.

Splitshire: Free to use videos (and photos). This site is a passion project of a photographer and videographer who decided to share his content for anyone to use as they need to. Here are the scope and limits to his permission.

Wondershare, Filmstock's Free Content: While most content on Filmstock is copyrighted, there is a section of free-to-reuse material. Some of it is great.

Vimeo: While the majority of content on Vimeo is not licensed for reuse, quite a bit of it is. Search for your topic, then use the filters on the left. Click + More under Refine, then refine by license type.

IMAGES

Unsplash: High quality, modern images. The site says about its work, "All photos published on Unsplash are licensed under Creative Commons Zero which means you can copy, modify, distribute and use the photos for free, including commercial purposes, without asking permission from or providing attribution to the photographer or Unsplash."

Pikwizard: All images on Pikwizard are licensed under Creative Commons Zero, which means you can use them for whatever you like without attributing the source. This collection, unlike others, is also rich in images of people.

Digital Public Library of America: The DPLA houses over 40 million images, videos, and sounds from across the United States. These materials must be cited.

Pixabay: A large collection of well-organized photos and videos. The site says about its collection, "All images and videos on Pixabay are released free of copyrights under Creative Commons CC0. You may download, modify, distribute, and use them royalty free for anything you like, even in commercial applications. Attribution is not required."

Public Domain Review Images: A highly curated collection of quirky images. Most the images are quite old, but they're high quality and really interesting.

GIFs released by the National Archives: Copyright-free GIFs! Yes! Find them here!
